New Russian Program Prepares Students for Global Leadership

After just one year of creation, the Russian Flagship Partnership Program's (RFPP) Federal funders were so impressed that they have increased their investment, allowing for a new Introductory Track next fall. The RFPP, one of only four in the U.S., offers students intensive Russian language proficiency while preparing them for careers critical to U.S. competitiveness and security. Originally targeted towards students with advanced language skills, now students with little to no Russian skills will have an opportunity to join.

Fall 2010 will see the launch of the new Introductory Track. After a year of intense study, including a summer immersion program, these Russian language beginners will be prepared to join their advanced classmates. This accelerated program allows more students with interest in the Russian language an opportunity to graduate with superior language skills and enhanced professional competitiveness.

Learn more about this program on the new Russian Flagship Partner Program website.

As a member of Portland State University's inaugural Russian Flagship Partnership Program, a four year undergraduate program that permits students to receive a Certificate of Advanced Proficiency in Russian, Christiana has learned to balance her time between studying Russian and fulfilling the requirements for a major in Applied Linguistics. Luckily her passion for reading is rivaled only by her love for language and grammar.

The article concludes that the level of flavorants in brand name smokeless tobacco products are up to 700 percent higher than in some well-known candy products. Pankow's research was spurred by his concern that the more "candy like" the tobacco product the more appealing they are to youth.
