From Car Salesman to PSU to Medical School: One Student's Journey to Follow his Dreams

This spring, three pre-med Biology students received full ride scholarships to OHSU School of Medicine. Nicholas Robbins, one of the scholarship recipients came to PSU tp pursue his lifelong goal of becoming a doctor, after being laid off from his job as a car salesman in 2008. Middle Schoolers Experience College with the Help of One First-Generation PSU Student

Ernesto Aguilar, a U.S. Air Force veteran pursuing a Master' Degree in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) at PSU, has become a mentor to the underserved kids in his North Portland neighborhood who dream of going to college. Ernesto, whose own parents didn't finish high school, knew he wasn't the only kid to face the challenge of being a first-generation college student.
