A Dean's Scholar Making a Difference through Cultural Awareness
An Irani-American raised in the United States, Monica Rabii has spent her entire life bridging two different cultures. Currently a CLAS Dean's Scholar in her second year at Portland State, Monica is a budding historian, who continues to deepen that global perspective through history and world language courses.

Doctoral Student Awarded "Mark of Distinction" by NASA
Ph.D. student Jeremy Shaw and his Mathematics and Statistics advisor Professor Dacian Daescu have won a prestigious NASA Earth System Science Fellowship for their project on increasing accuracy in weather prediction.

Psychology Team Takes on a Difficult Mission
Dr. Jan Haaken, professor emeritus of psychology, a clinical psychologist and documentary filmmaker, embedded with troops in Afghanistan last summer to shoot a documentary on stress in war zones.
Armed with a team of psychology students and her seasoned film crew, Haaken followed military therapists as they prepared for their mission and reflected on the impact of psychology on the soldiers.
